Hear ye! Hear ye! There’s an exciting event you don’t want to miss this month on the Outer Banks!
For the first time ever, enjoy a weekend of wine, food, music, and history at The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival! The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival will debut on Friday, September 29, 2017 with a Vintner’s Dinner and continue Saturday, September 30, with The Grand Tasting on the beautiful and historic grounds of the Waterside Theatre on Roanoke Island, home to America’s longest running outdoor symphonic drama, The Lost Colony. Not only is Roanoke Island the site of America’s first English colony and our country’s oldest mystery but also the birthplace of America’s first English child, Virginia Dare. The only silent witness remaining to these events is the Mother Vine, America’s oldest cultivated grapevine. Dated to be more than 400 years old, its myths and history is interwoven with Virginia Dare and the story of American wine. Wine, whether Old World or New World will be celebrated on the site where the New World was first explored by Sir Walter Raleigh’s colonies.
Food vendors include: Basnight’s Lone Cedar Cafe, Cafe Lachine, Argyles, Black Pelican, Ten O Six, Ortega’z, Sugar Creek, and Pamlico Jack’s. Local brewers include: Lost Colony Brewery, Outer Banks Brewing Station, and Weeping Radish Farm Brewery. Last, but not least, wineries include: Empire Distributors, Mutual Distributors, Tyron Distributing, Contry Vintner, Bordeaux Fine & Rare, plus local NC vintners: Sanctuary Vineyards, Vineyards on the Scuppernong, Duplin Winery, and Childress Vineyards.

The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival is a fundraising event produced by the Roanoke Island Historical Association, a 501 3(c) non-profit whose mission is to commemorate the history of the first English colonies in North America on Roanoke Island, NC – primarily accomplished by the annual production of its symphonic outdoor drama, The Lost Colony, and through educationally engaging events and programs. All funds raised from The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival will benefit The Lost Colony production.
First staged in 1937, The Lost Colony, is the nation’s premier and longest-running outdoor symphonic drama. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green, The Lost Colony performs from the end of May through late August every summer at Manteo’s Waterside Theatre, on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The 80th Anniversary Season begins May 26th and performs through August 20th, 2017.
