Soups On

Every year Village Realty holds fund raisers for the Outer Banks Angel Gift Program, to help families in need over the holidays. Each department decides how they want to raise money and the Sales Department has a Cook-Off featuring soups, chowders and different types of chili. This year we had this event at the Village Beach Club in Nags Head and invited the community.

$8 got you a bottomless bowl of soup, bread, dessert and a drink. The brokers did themselves proud. So many types of soup including shrimp bisque, OBX Gumbo, black bean, chili, white chicken chili, potato and leek, shrimp and potato chowder and more. Cornbread, foccacia bread, cakes, cookies, pies. And of course, fellowship. And knowing the money is going to a wonderful cause.

So far we have had two yard sales by the housekeeping department, a quilt raffle by the accounting department, wreath sales by reservations and a 50/50 raffle still in progress. This Saturday will be our Annual Breakfast with Santa at Pamlico Jack’s in Nags Head, a very popular event. The restaurant provides the buffet breakfast at cost to us and we, Village Realty employees, bus, bring drinks, “herd” the children as they wait to talk with Santa and make sure the buffet table stays full.

The little ones get to spend time with Santa and we have our photographer there to take photos which are then posted on our Facebook page. All this for $9 a person and again, all money goes to the Angel Gift Program.

Village Realty matches whatever we raise and last year that amount was over $10,000. Judging by the number of ticket sales to the breakfast, we will be busy this Sunday…raising money and having fun doing it.
