“Another great trip to the Outer Banks!!!!”
We have been coming to the Outer Banks for 30-40 years. First my youngest sister started coming with a friend, then my other sister started coming with them, then I started going a few years later. We’ve stayed in 2 bedroom cottages in the beginning where we had to bring our own TV and fans. We’ve come a long way baby – to now a 7 master bedroom house with a pool and elevator.
Some history – our Mother is 94 years old and still loves to walk on the beach. The daughters are myself, the middle sister and her husband, my youngest sister and her husband, 2 sons, one with his girlfriend.
We’ve stayed from Whalehead to South Nags Head but really love the house we’ve had the past 2 years in Southern Shores even though it’s not oceanfront. We love being able to sit outside even if there is a strong ocean breeze because we have wrap around decks and the distance between houses makes it feel much more private and we can watch the foxes come out at dusk. That was very cool.
We arrived Saturday 9/3 shortly after the eye of Tropical Storm Hermine passed over. The early arrivers met at Steamers for a very good lunch. Love the hush puppies. Not the greatest weather but not as bad as we feared. By Sunday afternoon, we were able to use the pool. Red flags were up for a few days and then again the last couple days before we left 2 weeks later.
Most of us just really enjoy relaxing by the pool reading and listening to music and just spending time together. My nephew and his girlfriend spent some time at the Nags Head Woods Preserve and she took some incredible pictures of something that looks like an alien in a spider web, and some snakes and flowers.
We do a lot of cooking at the house so can’t comment too much on restaurants. Nephew and girlfriend had lunch at Cravings in Duck and loved it. The 9 of us went out to dinner one night to Café Franco’s in Kill Devil Hills and we all gave it rave reviews. We will definitely be going back there every year. The second week there were only 6 of us we went to Steamers for dinner one night. Our server was super busy with tables upstairs and downstairs but she was awesome and we all enjoyed the steamed shrimp and our dinners.
Village Realty handled the few very minor issues very quickly. We are very happy with this company and all their employees.
And I couldn’t end a post without a beautiful sunrise.

Needless to say, we will be back again next year for 2 weeks. There is no better feeling than crossing the Wright Memorial Bridge when arriving. But the time goes to fast.
