Dear Ms. Ima…I love your blog. Thank you so much for sharing all the information and tips about the Outer Banks. Now, I need your help. Please. We will be coming to the beach this month. I have two children under the age of eight and a husband who loves to eat. Especially seafood. Where can we go that won’t break the bank and is kid friendly. I would like suggestions for breakfast, lunch and dinner since I am determined NOT to cook while I am on vacation. And I mean it. We are staying in The Village at Nags Head, and will be there from a Thursday to Monday. Thanks for any help. Signed, Hungry in Hampton Roads
Dear Hungry in Hampton Roads,
You are most welcome for any help I have given you via my blogs. That is why I am here! Here are my suggestions on where to take the kids and the husband to eat:
Sugar Creek on the Nags Head-Manteo Causeway is open every day for lunch and dinner. Very casual and very kid friendly. The views of the soundfront are awesome and the kids will love that because some local wildlife will often make an appearance while you are eating.
You can visit their website at www.SugarCreekSeafood.com to get an idea of what they serve. Their seafood is very fresh. Sugar Creek is locally owned and managed and has been here for years. Cannot go wrong here.
The Dunes Restaurant is also in Nags Head near Milepost 16.5. Family friendly. They have been here over 30 years. They serve breakfast and dinner. Good food and lots of it. Their award winning Breakfast & Fresh Fruit Bar is served is a good choice and is served on the weekends this time of year and daily during the summer. You can order off the menu and get everything from scrambled eggs to corn beef hash, pancakes, french toast, sausage gravy and more. Check out their menu here: www.thedunesrestaurant.com
For a quick sandwich or burger (or breakfast) you should also try Grits Grill in the Nags Head Mall. You can watch some food being cooked if you sit at the counter or sit down and get waited on. Nothing fancy…but good. They serve breakfast and lunch only.
I always recommend Booty Treats in Nags Head too. They serve ice cream and shaved ice and the kids love it. You can find them on the Beach Road at MP 10.5.
The OBX Pier in South Nags Head would be a good choice too…and you can eat outdoors and watch the waves and people fishing. The views are wonderful. You can get hamburgers, hot dogs, fish sandwiches, shrimp baskets, and so on. Pier food. And good.
I hope you have a wonderful vacation and if you want to share any photos remember that Village Realty has their annual photo contest going on. It runs through 10/31 so there is still time to enter. Grand prize is an off season week in one of their vacation homes! Woo Hoo.
