Marshes Light is a quaint boating community with a private marina, and guests of Safe & Sound have the option of using the designated boat slip (additional fee required - call for details). A public boat ramp is located nearby. Safe & Sound is a kayaker's dream, with convenient access to the Shallowbag Bay. Explore the protected salt marsh canals, waterways and wildlife of Roanoke Island's coast. Bring your own kayaks or rent them from Kitty Hawk Kites in downtown Manteo, where you can also sign up for guided kayak tours.

Downtown Manteo is within walking distance, so be sure to set aside a day or two to explore this hidden gem of the Outer Banks. You'll find cobblestone streets and Jacobean architecture representative of the town's Elizabethan origins. Walk to the Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse for a trip back in time, or cross the bridge over to Roanoke Island Festival Park where you'll find The Pavilion Outdoor Theatre, a live-entertainment venue with lawn-style amphitheater seating that hosts concerts and festivals throughout the year. When you're ready to hit the beach, you'll be just a quick ten-minute drive over the bridge to the Nags Head public accesses with free parking.

Awesome Vacation Property

This house was adorable! The view was lovely and it was close to shops in downtown Manteo. Our family enjoyed walking to town using the boardwalk along the water’s edge, and sitting on both back decks. The bottom deck is screened in so you can enjoy the view without the insects getting you! It was also close to the grocery store for stocking supplies.
Be aware that while the house is well stocked with equipment, it has very few supplies and none of the grocery staples often found at other Airbnb’s (oil, salt, pepper, tea, coffee). There is a limited supply of paper towels and toilet paper (1 roll per bathroom), dish soap (small bottle) and a small packet of dishwashing detergent that is just enough to do two loads of dishes. There was a small jug of laundry detergent, and some tiny hand soap bars in the restrooms. There were no other toiletries. We were happy to discover that they had chairs, an umbrella, and a cart for the beach.

Wonderful Family Trip!!!

Our two adult sons and daughter-in-law came to visit the Outerbanks! We loved the decor, the design, and the location of this house!!! The sunrises from the back decks were amazing! We were able to walk along the boardwalk of the marina to the quaint little town of Manteo for ice cream and shops! We were close enough to get to the ocean and favorite restaurants in minutes! We highly recommend this beautiful house to others and will look forward to staying here again when we return!!! Loved it!!!

What a vacation house should be.

Great location, beautiful house, well maintained, clean, all necessities available, great view (sunrise to sunset and night-time). Communication from Village Realty was very good from beginning to end. The only low point was the firm mattress on the MB, but we overcame that with the extra pillows. We would really like to stay here again.

For four guys on their annual fishing trip, this house was ideal. The boardwalk into Manteo was fantastic. We made that walk nightly. Fishing in the sound was great, caught several fish and had fun with some pesky crabs. We cooked steaks one night on the grill. There were some strong winds while we were there that blew out the screen on the back patio door. Called about it and they offered to have it fixed that day but since the wind was not letting up, we opted to let them fix it after we left. All in all, we loved the house. Great bedrooms, well equipped kitchen, and nice big screen TV. We would love to rent this house again in the future.

We found it had every amenity we needed. We especially loved the lower screened porch and enjoyed breakfast there several times. This would be a great vacation home for a larger family or two small families. Plenty of space for everyone to spread out.
