Outer Banks Woman's Club Scholarships for Summer Camps

PRESS RELEASE:

OUTER BANKS WOMAN’S CLUB PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS TO DARE COUNTY FRIENDS OF YOUTH FOR UNC CSI SUMMER CAMPS

Each summer the UNC Coastal Studies Institute (UNC CSI) offers fun, educational experiences for middle and high school students through weeklong day camps hosted at the UNC CSI Research and Education Campus in Wanchese, NC.  The “Coastal Science Camps focus on providing campers the opportunity to explore the ecosystems of the Outer Banks while learning about the placed based-research currently being conducted by UNC CSI scientists.  Campers collect data in the aquatic environments of the Outer Banks by accessing marshes, estuaries and the ocean using kayaks, research vessels and snorkeling.  Students engineer ocean-exploring equipment, research and debate societal issues facing the Outer Banks, and document their experiences through photos and videos. Two weeks of ummer camp were held in June and July of 2016, with additional weeks planned for the Summer of 2017.

This summer marks the second year that the Outer Banks Woman’s Club (OBWC) has provided summer opportunities for participants in the Dare County Friend’s of Youth Program at UNC CSI Summer Camps.  The generous funding provided by the OBWC provided scholarships for two students to attend camp during the Summer of 2016.
